What’s the Best Vinyl for Boats? Here’s What We Recommend
By Decal District Australia
If you're decking out a boat with decals or custom graphics, choosing the right vinyl is key. At Decal District, one of the most common questions we hear is:
"What vinyl should I use on a boat?"
The short answer? ORACAL 751 or ORACAL 951, both are top-quality marine-grade options.
Why You Need Marine-Grade Vinyl
Boats face harsh conditions: UV rays, salt water, wind, and constant movement. Regular vinyl just won’t cut it. That’s where cast vinyl comes in. Unlike cheaper calendared vinyls, cast vinyl is thinner, more durable, and flexible enough to hug tight curves and complex shapes. It's perfect for boat surfaces.
ORACAL 751 vs ORACAL 951
Both of these are trusted by professionals for marine applications:
- ORACAL 751 is a high-performance cast vinyl ideal for general marine use. It’s flexible, long-lasting, and available in a wide range of colours.
- ORACAL 951 takes it up a notch. It offers even better conformability for trickier surfaces and has a longer lifespan. This makes it great for premium jobs or intricate designs.
Need some decals done for your boat?
If you’re working on a boat project, investing in the right vinyl means better performance and a longer-lasting finish. At Decal District, we stock both ORACAL 751 and 951 in loads of colours and finishes, perfect for marine use.
If it's a design we already have, generally switching it up to marine grade final is approximately 20% more on cost. This can vary though - there are times where we secure special deals on bulk vinyl, and we absolutely pass those discounts onto the customer.
